Heart of Lions beat Nania to stretch lead
Heart of Lions started the second round of the 2022/23 Division One League (DOL) Zone 3 match day 16 on a flying note, recording a 2-1 comeback victory over Nania FC at the Kpando Stadium on Sunday.
The former Premier League campaigners took another leap to secure their place in next season’s Ghana Premier League with their seventh consecutive win.
The Kpando-based club is now eight points clear ahead of second-placed, Semper Fi FC, with 30 points after a pulsating 0-0 stalemate with Uncle ‘T’ United.
Lions started on a bright note with skipper, Sakabutu Dickson, going close in the fifth minute but it was Nania FC that took the lead against the run of play through Kweku Owusu’s 14th-minute strike.
Back from recess, Samuel Okine levelled the scores for the Lions.
Despite the close contest, it was the Lions that roared in the end, as a penalty was converted by Ebenezer Abban late into additional time.
In other Zone 1 matches, Tano Bofoakwa defeated B.A. United 2-1, Steadfast FC thrashed Debibi United 2-0, while Young Apostles lost 2-0 to Berekum Arsenals.
Leaders in Zone 2, Skyy FC, drew 1-1 with Ebusua Dwarfs, Nations were held to a disappointing 1-1 stalemate with Swedru All Blacks and Elmina Sharks lost 2-0 to Nzema Kotoko.
In other games, Susubiribi beat Krystal Palace 1-0, Akatsi All Stars drew goalless with Volta Rangers, Vision FC won 1-0 over Mighty Jets, while Liberty Professionals shared the spoils with Golden Kicks in a goalless draw.
