OAK FC handed Samartex Ladies their first defeat of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in their Matchday 2 encounter of the ongoing Gold Fields Women’s Premier League Southern Zone game, played at the Hearts Complex, Pobiman.

Barbra Marfo scored the all-important goal in the sixth minute to hand the Phobia ladies their first victory of the new campaign.

Billed as one of the headline fixtures of Matchday 2, the game lived up to its pre-match hype, with both teams offering a glimpse of the quality and tactical battles fans anticipated.

The hosts piled pressure on the visitors in search of an early opener. After two failed attempts in the opening exchanges, Felicity Antwi Agyei raced past her marker, Gertrude Amofoaah, and delivered a cross from the right, which was tapped home by an onrushing Marfo.

The goal boosted the morale of the Oak Ladies, who pressed for more goals but were met with equal resistance from their opponents, who also chased an equaliser.

After the break, goalkeeper Kerrie McCarthy produced the save of the game when she parried a long-range volley from Salamatu Mohammed over the crossbar.

The Phobians held on to secure victory, building on their Matchday 1 draw away to Somanya-based, Rootz Sistaz.

In other matches, a brace from Fidous Yakubu and a goal each from Sophia Agyakwa and Beatrice Tsikofor helped Police Ladies to thrash Immigration Ladies 4-0 in their all-service encounter at the Alajo Astro Turf Park.

Hasaacas Ladies defeated Jonina Ladies 1-0, Ladystrikers beat Rootz Sistaz by the same scoreline, while Epiphany Warriors held Army Ladies to a 1-1 draw.

In the Northern Zone, Prisons Ladies beat Fosu Royal Ladies 1-0, while Ashanti Ladies secured a 1-0 victory over Northern Ladies with Dreamz Ladies and Tamale Super Ladies playing out a goalless draw.
