Hearts of Lions shock Kotoko in Obuasi
Heart of Lions handed Asante Kotoko its second defeat of the season with a shock 1-0 victory in their matchday 9 game played at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi yesterday.
Former Hearts of Oak striker, Kwadwo Obeng Jr., scored the only goal of the game to seal his side’s first away win of the season.
Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, handed a starting role to Guinean shotstopper, Mohammed Camara, Michael Kyei Dwamena, Patrick Asiedu and Lord Amoah in place of captain Frederick Asare, as well as Samuel Tenadu, Peter Amidu Acquah, and Joseph Ablorh.
The Porcupine Warriors were aiming to bounce back from their first defeat of the season, a narrow 2-1 loss to Legon Cities in an outstanding game; however, Obeng Jr.’s 28th-minute strike after Kotoko goalkeeper, Camara, miskicked a clearance was what they held onto to ensure Kotoko dropped to third place on the league log while Lions climbed to seventh.
Not even the seven minutes added on was enough for the Kotoko lads to draw level as the visitors held on to hand the Porcupine Warriors their second defeat in the league within a week.
Kotoko will next trek to the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem to play as guest of Bechem United on match day 10, while Heart of Lions stay put at the Kpnado Park to host Berekum Chelsea.
