I‘ll ensure 24-hr policing on Walewale- Bolgatanga road – NER Minister-designate

The Minister-designate for the North East Region, Tia Ibrahim, has assured that when given the nod, he will ensure the 24 hours policing on the Wale­Wale- Bolgatanga stretch of the region, to curb criminal activities in the on the roads.

This, he said, was necessary to protect lives and property.

Mr Ibrahim, who gave the assurance when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments com­mittee during his vetting yesterday, stressed that there was the need more visibility of police men to deal with the issue with all the seriousness it deserves.

He stated that he would also keep engaging all traditional leaders and the communities to find a long-lasting solution to the prob­lem of security at all levels

“The rampant armed robbery cases going on in the regions is disheartening and therefore, prag­matic measures needs to be put in place to salvage the situation as a matter of urgency,” he added.

He indicated that in some of the areas anytime armed robbers were arrested we find Fulanis among them.

Touching on how he would boost agriculture, he stated that his region was blessed with fertile land good for the cultivation of different crops, adding that he would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to refine whatever they planted and produced in the region to distribute for sale around the country and beyond.

“We need to have effective engagement with relevant stake­holders which I will do and make it mandatory every quarter to check issues and conflicts from the region to find out how we can tackle them. When I am given the nod we will implement more measures for job creation,” he added.

Mr Ibrahim also emphasised the critical role of agriculture in driving economic growth and improving livelihoods, stating that the sector has the potential to significantly boost development in any area.

Furthermore, he explained that agriculture not only supports food security but also serves as a foun­dation for job creation and wealth generation, making it a key avenue for improving the lives of residents in the North East Region.

He noted that the region’s fertile lands presented vast opportunities for cultivating diverse crops, which, when properly harnessed, could transform the area into an agricul­tural hub.

To achieve this, he pledged to collaborate with relevant stakehold­ers to refine agricultural practices, add value to produce, and create market opportunities both locally and internationally.

Moreover, the minister-designate assured that his administration would provide the necessary sup­port to farmers, including address­ing challenges such as post-harvest losses and inadequate irrigation systems.

By investing in modern farm­ing methods and infrastructure, he believes the agricultural sector could become a major driver of development and a reliable source of employment for the people of the region.
