LA wildfires force PGA Tour to relocate
The Genesis Invitational will take place at a different venue next month due to the wildfires in Los Angeles, the PGA Tour has confirmed.
Scheduled for February 13-16, the tournament, organised by the Tiger Woods Foundation, was originally set to be held at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
However, the area has been severely affected by the most destructive fire in LA history, which has already consumed more than 23,000 acres and devastated the local community.
Organisers have not yet revealed the new venue but will provide further updates in the coming days. The Genesis Invitational, one of eight PGA Tour signature events in 2025, has a prize purse of $20 million (€16.3m).
In a statement, the PGA Tour emphasised its commitment to the safety and wellbeing of those impacted by the unprecedented wildfires in Greater Los Angeles. “We are grateful for the lifesaving efforts of first responders and the tireless work being done to put an end to the tragic wildfires,” the statement read.
Riviera Country Club, the long-time host of the Genesis Invitational (formerly the Los Angeles Open), is also scheduled to host the men’s and women’s tournaments at the LA Olympics in 2028.
Tiger Woods, speaking on the matter, stressed that the focus was on safety and supporting those affected.
“As of right now we’re not really focused on the tournament,” Woods said. “It’s more about what we can do to help everyone who’s struggling, who’s lost homes and had their lives changed.” –Insidethegames.biz
