Nsawam Road Church of Christ begins deaf awareness month celebration

The Nsawam Road of the Church of Christ has begun its month long deaf awareness month celebration on the theme “Do the deaf people matter?”

The programme which commenced last Sunday will provide members  a valuable opportunity to gain insight into the world of deaf individuals and appreciate their unique perspectives.

This initiative aims to educate the congregation on the challenges faced by the deaf community, fostering a deeper understanding of inclusivity and the importance of embracing diversity within the church community and society at large.

Delivering the sermon, Reverend Sam William warned Christians against discrimination towards persons with disabilities.

He dispelled the misconception that disability equates to incapacity, highlighting the significant contributions of the deaf ministry to the wellbeing of the church.

He also stressed the importance of societal accommodation for the deaf community and called on Christians to exemplify love and acceptance in their interactions.

Notably, Reverend William mentioned the Church of Christ’s role in Ghana’s development, citing the impactful interpretations provided by the Nsawam branch’s deaf ministry during national events.

“Our deaf ministry has excelled,” Reverend William affirmed, emphasising the integral role of inclusivity in fostering societal progress.

Discrimination against deaf people he said should end because every individual, regardless of their hearing ability, deserves equal opportunities and respect.

“Deaf individuals possess unique talents and perspectives that enrich our society. By embracing inclusivity, we foster a community where everyone can thrive, contributing their skills and experiences towards a brighter future.”

“Discrimination not only limits opportunities but also undermines the fundamental principle of equality that should guide our interactions and decisions,” Reverend William added.

In his concluding remarks, the revered man of God urged the congregation to embrace kindness, recognising its transformative power in fostering opportunities for personal and communal growth.
