Police arrest cop over stolen motorcycle, AK 47 assault rifle in Kintampo
The Police at Kintampo in the Bono East Region have arrested one of their own, Lance Corporal Christian Adjei Boateng for stealing a motorcycle belonging to the service.
The motorcycle with a registration number M-15UW 2021 was found at a mechanic shop where the suspect was reported to have brought it there for sale.
A search conducted in his single room apartment at his private residence at Kintampo, the police discovered AK 47 assault rifle ammunitions, body amour, dead body bag, ballistic helmet and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Lance corporal Christian Adjei Boateng in his caution statement to the police admitted stealing the items.
The Kintampo Municipal Police Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Office, (DSP) Edmund Agyemang who confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times said he together with other officers conducted a search in the suspect’s room and found the items but declined further comment.
Giving background to the incident, a police source said a colleague of the suspect saw Christian pushing the Honda motorcycle from the police station to a mechanic shop across the road which is near the police station.
His colleague latter informed others who together went to the mechanic shop but the suspect with the motorcycle was nowhere to be found.
His colleagues made a report to the station and the Crime Officer together with other officers went to a searched his apartment where they found the items and retrieved them.
He was consequently arrested and confirmed in a cautioned statement to the police and that he stole the items.
The suspect admitted that he bought the Indian hemp for his personal use but refuse to lead the police to where he acquired it.
Lance corporal Christian Adjei Boateng is currently in police custody assisting in investigation.
