Pre-burial service for Ndebugre to be held at Forecourt of State House Thursday
THE remains of the late John Ndebugre, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Zebilla in the Upper East Region, will be laid to rest on Saturday July 17, 2022 at Timonde in the Upper East Region.
Before that a pre-burial mass and filing past would be held at the forecourt of the state house in Accra on Thursday July 14,2022.
A memorial and thanksgiving service will be held at the St Charles Lwanga Catholic Church at Zebilla in the Upper East Region on Sunday, July 17, 2022.
Mr Ndebugre passed away on May 6, 2022 at his residence in Zebilla after complaints of chest pains.
A book of condolence was opened in his memory in May with some dignitaries around and beyond the country paying homage and pouring in their tributes to mourn the former MP.
A visit by the Ghanaian Times to the late MP’s residence in Accra showed that high ranking personalities including the former President, John Dramani Mahama, the MP for Zebilla, Mr Cletus Apul Avoka, former MP for Garu, Dominic Azumah Azimbe, Mahama Ayariga, Bawku Central MP, and Benjamin Anyagre, the immediate past Executive Director, Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute had also visited to mourn the late MP.
Mr Vladimir Ndebugre, the first son of the late MP and a lawyer, told the Ghanaian Times that “the Ndebugre family, Ghana and the world at large had lost a colossus”.
He revealed that his father was in good health until his demise when he complained of chest pains, and as such debunked false reports of his father dying after a short illness.
Mr Ndebugre said his father stood for “social justice for all his life,” coupled with truthfulness and that was a legacy that would be lived on.
The first born and only female child of the late MP, Reverend Patience Ndebugre, an accountant, stressed that the news of her father’s death came as a surprise to them as he was in good health,saying, “but he predicted his death though. It looked like he knew when he will be exiting”.
The late politician and lawyer was known to be vociferous: he shared strong views on pertinent national issues, spoke on many legal and political issues in the media, as was often relied upon as a resource person.
The late Ndebugre pursued a degree in chemical engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, was subsequently called to the bar in 1988 after reading law, and served in other capacities until he fell out with the late former President, Jerry John Rawlings.
He served in the Provisional National Defence Council in the early 80s as a Northern Regional Secretary, Upper Regional Secretary, Secretary for Agriculture and in the office of the PNDC Secretariat.
He left behind a widow, Mrs Sophia Alasburi Lamisi Ndebugre, and four children. They are Rev. Patience A. Ndebugre, Vladimir A. Ndebugre, Thomas Ayumah Ndebugre and Nelson N.Ndebugre
The private legal practitioner hailed from Timonde in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
