Legon Cities’ fight for survival in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) was dealt with a blow yesterday when they lost 2-0 to defending champions, Samartex FC, in their week 27 game played at the Tuba Astro Turf.
Tagged a must-win encounter for the strugglers who sit 17th on the table with 22 points from 25 games, they failed to live up to the pre-game hype.
A 21st minute strike from striker Emmanuel Mamah unsettled the host as they switched to a more defensive game plan in order not to concede more.
In the second half, Cities tried to lift their game as Coach Yaw Acheampong made some changes but to no effect.
Two minutes to the hour mark, striker Baba Musa Hamadu doubled the lead for Samartex with a strike that beat goalkeeeper Joseph Kumah in post for Cities.
They moved to ninth position on the log with 35 points
