Snoop Dogg bids to design Los Angeles 2028 medals
PARIS Games fixture Snoop Dogg has set his sights on yet another Olympic venture: designing the LA 2028 medals.
The NBC Olympic Primetime Show correspondent, torchbearer and unofficial Team USA cheerleader launched a new jewellery line with the ambitious aim of crafting Olympic medals last week.
The rapper launched his new business endeavour with music company gamma and Metal Alchemist, who designed the chain worn by Snoop during a pre-Olympics event in Paris, which showcased a medallion made from original copper from the Statue of Liberty. This unique piece was the brainchild of Metal Alchemist founder Carolyn Rafaelian.
“Let me put our bid in right now. The Olympics, IOC (International Olympic Committee), we want to do the medals for the Olympics in 2028,” Snoop said at the launch.
Snoop said the collection is designed around love — love for his wife, his children, his grandchildren and people across the world who’d like to feel connected to him, no matter their race. He stated that he felt like he was a “lovechild” and hopes the collection could symbolise love and connection.
While the fate of Lovechild in the Olympic medal race is uncertain, Snoop Dogg is still likely to have his place on the Olympic stage. NBC has been talking about bringing the star back for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Games and again for the rapper’s hometown Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
Snoop Dogg seems to be on board and is excited to showcase his city to the world. He’s even joked about bringing about a “hood Olympics” for local talent.
“I just wanna make it available for the athletes from the hood that didn’t make it, that probably had certain ramifications, but they still were athletic, and they still were good. So, I wanna bring that component, and hopefully we’ll be able to, you know, make it make sense,” the rapper told ET’s Kevin Frazier in September.
