Disregard recruitment exercise to form national flag football team – GAFF

The Ghana American Football Federation (GAFF) says it has no hands in an ongoing exercise of recruiting players to form the national flag football team for the 2028 Olympics to be staged in Los Angeles, United States of America.

The exercise, according to a statement signed by the General Secretary of the GAFF, is being conducted by an official known as Mohammed Osman Nkosi.

“It has come to the notice of Ghana American Football Federation that, one Mohammed Osman Nkosi, the co-founder and President of the Titans of Africa operating in Ghana, is going round claiming to be recruiting players to prepare the national flag football team for 2028 Olympics to be staged in Los Angeles, United States of America,” the statement noted.

Consequently, the GAFF has the general public to disregard any statement coming from the said Nkosi purporting to recruit players to form a national flag football team of any sort.

Moreover, the federation also urged the media, foreign missions and stakeholders of American football across the world to contact the federation on all matters relating to American football in Ghana.

“For the records, Ghana American Football Federation is the national governing body for the sport of American football and non – contact flag football in Ghana.

The federation is duly registered under the laws of Ghana as a private entity limited by guarantee and is a member of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), the world governing body for the sport of American football and a founding member of IFAF – Africa and works under the National Sports Authority,” it noted.

The statement explained that the formation of the national team was done by selecting players from the four recognised teams that participates in its flag football league.

The four clubs include Accra Lightning Stars, Tema Pirates, Koftown Bisons, Cape Coast Predators and a girl’s flag football team – the Diamond Divas.

The statement also announced that the federation was in the process of selecting players to represent the country in the 2025 IFAF Africa continental championship as well as the L.A 2028 Olympic Games where flag football would be debuted.
