Veep honours 52 students at Indece Day awards

 Fifty-two students from public and private schools, including those who are visually and hearing-impaired, have been awarded for their outstanding performance in the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The awards, sponsored by Nestlé Ghana Ltd., in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, is to recognizing excellence in Ghana through the President’s Independence Day Awards.

As part of their award package, each student received a laptop, Nestlé souvenirs, and one year’s supply of Nestlé products, as well as a plaque and a signed certificate from the President of the Republic of Ghana.

The awardees also engaged in a series of excit­ing activities prior to the event, which included a tour of the Nestlé factory in Tema, visits to the Jubilee House, the Ministry of Education and the University of Ghana.

The awards ceremony, held in Accra was attended by Ministers of State, members of the Diplomatic Corps, Heads of Departments and Agencies, as well as traditional leaders.

The President’s Independence Day Awards, celebrated as part of the 68th Independence Day celebration of Ghana yesterday was on the theme “Reflect, Review and Reset.”

Decorating the awardees, the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, con­gratulated the recipients and encouraged them to keep striving for success and excellence.

She also acknowledged the role of parents, guardians, teachers and all who have contributed to the success of the award winners.

According to the Vice President, behind every outstanding student was a strong support system of dedicated parents, teachers, and mentors who invest time, effort, and resources in shaping the future of the nation.

Speaking directly to the awardees, the Vice President encouraged them to remain committed to their studies and use their recognition as a stepping stone to greater achievements.

She reminded them that their hard work and determination would not only open doors for their personal growth but also contribute to Gha­na’s national development.

Vice President Prof. Opoku-Agyemang paid glowing tribute to the late President Jerry John Rawlings, whose visionary leadership led to the establishment of this awards scheme.

Education, she said, remained a collective responsibility of all and called on stakeholders to work together in ensuring that every Ghanaian child had access to quality education and reiter­ated the government’s commitment to advancing education policies that promote equity, innova­tion, and excellence.

Mr Georgios Badaro, the Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana Ltd., emphasized the company’s commitment and unwavering dedication to fos­tering positive change and ensuring the prosperity of individuals and communities.

He emphasized that education was a crucial foundation for development, and that Nestlé firmly believed in acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of students.

Nestlé Ghana Ltd has been associated with the awards scheme since it was established in 1993.
