Veep to address at Africa Mindset Reset forum in Kigali
Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang will speak at the inaugural Africa Mindset Reset Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, today.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang’s participation, scheduled for August 25 to 26 at the Kigali Convention Centre, will provide Ghana with an opportunity to contribute to discussions on leadership, governance and Africa’s development.
The forum, organised by the African School of Governance (ASG), is expected to attract about 1,000 leaders from Africa and beyond. About 80 per cent of the participants are expected to be young people and emerging leaders.
Former South African President Thabo Mbeki and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo are among the prominent figures expected to attend.
Former Gambian Vice President Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang and Monica Geingos, widow of former Namibian President Hage Geingob, are also expected at the meeting.
The forum will be held under the theme: ‘From Pan-Africanism to Meta-Africanism.’
The meeting seeks to move Africa beyond the traditional focus on political unity and independence, with emphasis on strong institutions, African-led solutions and practical action.
President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, one of the founders of the African School of Governance, will join Vice President Opoku-Agyemang and former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn for a discussion on turning African unity into concrete action.
The second day will focus on African ownership and management of the continent’s natural resources. Participants will also discuss people-centred development.
The forum will also consider the establishment of a single African air transport market and an African institution to assess the creditworthiness of African countries.
The forum is built around seven transformations aimed at changing the way Africa approaches development.
With young people expected to form the majority of participants, the meeting will provide a platform for a new generation of African leaders to shape the continent’s future.
The broader goal is to encourage Africans to take greater ownership of the continent’s resources, institutions and future, while turning the ideals of Pan-Africanism into practical results.
