We‘ll achieve goal of prosperous, progressive Ghana – President

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed optimism that his government will achieve its goal of creating a progressive and prosperous Ghana for all over the next one year.

To this end, he has therefore appealed to all Ghanaians to come together and work towards the attainment of these goals.

“Indeed, Ghana has come this far by his grace and I am excited by the opportunities that lie ahead for our country. At the end of my term or time in office as it nears or be it one year to go, I am filled with optimism and determination that with the support of the Ghanaian people and the guidance of the almighty God… I am confident that we will achieve our goal of creating a progressive and prosperous Ghana for all,” he emphasised.

President Akufo-Addo said this at the Presidential New Year Eucharist Service held at the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday.

The service, which was instituted in 2022, was held under the auspices of the Internal Province of Ghana Anglican Communion and officiated by Most Reverend Dr Cyril Kobina Ben-Smith, the Primate and Metropolitan Archbishop, the Church of the Province of West Africa (CPWA) and Archbishop of Mampong.

President Akufo-Addo said Ghanaians must begin the New Year with a renewed sense of purpose and a stronger commitment to the ideas that united them as a free nation.

He said the goal of creating a prosperous and progressive society was a mission that required not only political understanding, but also heavenly inspiration and grace.

Recounting the role of the church in such endeavour, the President said the church played a critical role, stressing that “let me add my voice and support to the many strategic initiatives on which the church has embarked.”

He noted that as the President of the Republic, he supported the establishment of the Spirit Insurance Brokerage Company and was very happy to have fulfilled his promise of providing the initial financial security of GH¢500,000.00

In addition to this, President Akufo-Addo said the government supported efforts to see the issuance of the Anglican University College of Technology’s Charter in accordance with established regulation, stressing, “I have thus consented to be the guest of honour at a fundraising event bringing together all Anglicans to help the University.”

President Akufo-Addo expressed his satisfaction with the church’s repositioning agenda for growth and development, adding, “I am glad to see the visibility of the Anglican Image and Presence which have been exceptional.”

Most Reverend Ben-Smith said the New Year offered a clean slate and opportunity for new beginnings, new ideas and strategies as well as God’s favour to help the country overcome and deal with challenges that laid ahead of the country.

He said the service was to stress the clergy’s and God’s commitment to the President and to proclaim spiritual support for the year as a year of many blessings from God.

Rev. Ben-Smith said this year more than ever before, things would begin to shift dramatically with multiples of divine blessings and economic prosperity for God’s people in the country.
