Govt sets up c’ttee to develop comprehensive conditions of service for Civil, Local Govt staff
Government has put together a team to develop a comprehensive conditions of service for the Civil and Local Government staff to improve their working conditions.
The team comprises the Senior Minister, Minister for National Security, Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Chairman of the Public Services Commission, Head of Public Service, Head of Local Government Service and other key stakeholders.
They are expected to commence work after the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, had presented the 2020 Budget Statement and Financial Policy of the government on November 14, 2019.
This was contained in a speech read on behalf of the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, at the 2018 Ghana Civil Service awards night held in Accra last Friday.
Themed: “Improving the service delivery to promote Ghana Beyond Aid”, the occasion was to celebrate achievements of hardworking staff.
Those who were honoured included Mr Solomon Asoalla, Chief Director of the Ministry of Works and Housing, Best Chief Director and Mr Frank Oliver Kpodo of the Defence Ministry, Best Director.
Dr Bawumia said the government seeks to create a new civil service that was purpose driven to guarantee the delivery of high-quality services for Ghanaians and the private sector.
“It is in the light of that government is implementing the National Public Sector Reforms Strategy (NPSRS 2018-2019). The strategy will review and modernise current structures, systems, processes and internal management functions of the public sector in order to support government’s development priorities,” the Vice President said.
Dr Bawumia was hopeful the NPSRS would also help create the conditions necessary for the private sector to thrive and thereby, creating employment opportunities for the youth within the context of the overall of a Ghana Beyond Aid.
He said one key project under the NPSRS was the Ghana Public Sector Reforms for Result Project (PSRRP), and explained that the project was designed to improve efficiency and accountability in the delivery of public services by 16 selected Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the country.
He added, “The project seeks to improve the performance of specific entities crucial to the delivery of services and strengthened citizen engagement, efficiency and accountability and handling of complaints.”
“It is my candid hope that the exercise will be completed within the shortest possible time to improve working conditions of workers. I wish to assure that government will continue to provide the much needed support for proper management and motivation of staff of the civil service,” Dr Bawumia said.
