2 traders gets 1 day for stealing motorbike

Two traders have been sentenced to a day in prison by the Accra Circuit Court, for stealing a motorbike.

This was after Stephen Ackon and Shadrack Tetteh pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry and stealing.

Mrs Susana Eduful, presiding, also imposed a fine of GH¢18, 000, 00 each on the convicts, and in default they would serve 24 months in prison.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kyei Okufu, told the court that Abdul Kadri Sumana a scrap

dealer, and resident of Teshie, was the complainant.

The court heard that Ackon and Tetteh, both petty traders, were living at Agbogloshie, Accra.

Chief Inps Okufu said Tetteh visited his mother at Teshie, Accra, where he saw the complainant’s motorbike, a Royal 125 horse power, parked in a house in the neighborhood.

The court heard that latter, Tetteh contacted Ackon, and both planned to steal the motorbike.

Chief Insp. Okufu said the two moved from Agbogbloshie to Teshie and stole the motorbike.

The prosecution said the convicts sneaked into the house and moved the motor bike out while the complainant was asleep.

Chief Insp Okufu told the court that Ackon, used a tool to disconnect the wiring and ignited the motorbike without a key.

The prosecution said the convicts rode the motorbike to La and made efforts to get in touch with a receiver who had pre-arranged to buy it.

Chief Insp. Okufu said, however, in the process, a team of police patrol arrested the convicts and detained them at the La police station.

He said investigation revealed the owner of the motorbike.

Chief Insp. Okufu also indicated that it also came to light during investigation that Kwame, now at large, who had been buying stolen motorbikes from the convicts, had urged them to bring the booty for him to buy.

The prosecution said efforts were underway to arrest the receiver.
