3 Ketu North Municipal hospital workers granted GH¢600,000 bail for alleged extortion

 The  Circuit Court at Tor­kor, near Denu, has granted GH¢200,000 bail each to three workers of Ketu North Municipal Hospital, in the Volta Region, who were on remand for extortion and attempt to extort.

They were asked to provide two sureties each.

The trio are Collins Asilevi, a laboratory Technician of the hospital, John Delu, record keeper, and Stella Kale, a Community Health Nurse, as accomplices.

They pleaded not guilty to the charge and they would be ex­pected to re-appear before court on August 15. The accused were represented by Mr Senanu Afagbe, who filed an application for their bail.

The circuit presided over by Mr Joseph Ofosu Behone, remanded them into police custody on July 29.

Chief Inspector Hamid Mo­hamed, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr Joseph Ofosu Behone, that the trio conspired and extorted monies from owners of two chemical stores totaling GH¢2,000 and GH¢1,000 respec­tively. According to prosecution, the accused went to the third shop at Tadzewu but met resistance, when the owner suspected them and sought advice from the Phar­macy Council and the Food and Drugs Authority.

Chief Insp Mohamed said the fleeing trio were chased and arrest­ed at Weta junction and handed over to the police, and upon investigations were charged with extortion. —GNA
