386 POLICE RECRUITS PASS OUT
A total of 386 police recruits have passed out from the Police Public Safety Training School (PPSTS) at Pwalugu in the Upper East Region.
The number comprises 193 males and 193 females.
The passing out ceremony means that the recruits have now been given the green -light to join the Ghana Police Service (GPS) and maintain law and order in the country.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo-Dampare, in an address read for him admonished the new entrants to the Service to uphold high professional standards and sound moral principles in the discharge of their duties.
The IGP whose address was read by the Review Officer, Commissioner of Police (COP) Okyere-Darko Asumadu, reminded them of the herculean task ahead especially during this year’s elections, stating “There is therefore the need to caution you that in order to live up to the public trust and expectation, you must enforce the security laws governing the elections fairly with utmost respect for citizens’ rights.”
He indicated that he was fortified in his mind that the recruits would contribute significantly to the fight against crime in the country.
With regard to dealing with “rabble rousers” during electioneering, the IGP disclosed that an Election Security Secretariat had been established to oversee election related issues.
He reiterated that the “The vision of the police administration is to position the Ghana Police Service as the best institution in Ghana and a reference point for Africa and beyond.
You are, therefore, to note that your actions and inactions will be under scrutiny of the public that you are going to serve, and you have to treat them with respect.”
Dr Akufo – Dampare used the platform to inform the public that new training modules had been rolled out to equip newly recruited officers to gain hands-on experience under the supervision of senior officers in the service.
Miss Francisca Awuku of the PPSTS was adjudged the overall National Best Recruit and the Best Recruit for the Pwalugu PPSTS, while General Sergeant (G/SGT) Imoro Muftawu emerged as the Best Under-cadet in the school.
