Acting IGP leads delegation … to sympathise with family of late Chief Insp Kaakyire
The acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo Dampare, yesterday led senior police officers to sympathise with the family of the late Chief Inspector Abednego Kaakyire, a police dispatch rider, who died in an accident, involving an advance convoy of the Speaker of Parliament, last Friday, at Juaso, in the Ashanti Region.
The IGP was accompanied to the residence of the late Chief Insp Kaakyire, in Achimota, Accra, by the Director-General (DG) of Administration, Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno; COP Fredrick Adu Anim, DG Human Resource and COP Patrick Akologo, DG National Protection Department.
The rest were DG Operations, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mohammed Suraji; DCOP Very Rev George Arthur, DG Religious Affairs Directorate; DCOP Martin Ayiih, Commanding Officer of the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Unit and Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, Director, Police Public Affairs.
Family members, including the wife of late Chief Insp Kaakyire, Mrs Matilda Kaayire, friends and colleagues of the deceased were seen weeping over the death of their loved one, when the police team arrived.
Dr Dampare assured the bereaved family of the Police Administration’s continuous support to them, to organise a befitting burial for the late Chief Insp Kaakyire, saying “The police Administration will support the family in all ways to have a befitting funeral for the late officer.”
He asked the family to continue to have hope in the Lord during their difficult time.
A representative of the family, John Teye Coffie, commended the acting IGP and his entourage for their visit to sympathise with them. Prayers were said for the family.
It would be recalled that the advance convoy of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, was involved in an accident at Juaso, in Ashanti Region, last Friday.
A vehicle was said to have crashed into the Speaker’s convoy, leading to the death of Chief Insp Kaakyire instantly.
The convoy was heading to Kumasi from Accra ahead of the Speaker’s travel the following day.
