Adum Afrando chieftaincy dispute… – Kokoben Police Station Officer interdicted

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has interdicted the Kokoben Police Station Officer, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Opoku Addai for his alleged role in the murder of a 38-year old man in a land/chieftaincy dispute at Adum Afrancho, in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.
The Station Officer accused of being an accomplice to the murder has been arraigned at the Asokwa District Court Two on Tuesday.
Five out of the other six murder suspects arrested in connection with the case also appeared before the court.
The sixth accused, Kwame Brefo, also known as ‘K Man’, said to be the prime suspect for allegedly stabbing Samuel Kwame Yeboah (deceased) is still on admission at a hospital under police guard.
Kwame Brefo had been charged with murder while the others are facing the charge of rioting and possession of offensive weapons.
The court presided by Ms Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, granted bail of GH¢30, 000.00 with surety each to the suspects.
They would appear on July 15, 2022.
But, there was tension at the forecourt of the court after the judge had granted Chief Inspector Emmanuel Opoku Addai, a “self recognisance bail.”
It was also heavy police presence that prevented a chaotic scene by some aggrieved residents from Adum Afrancho who were unhappy with the court’s decision.
The suspects presented a three-member defence counsel who argued that their clients are law abiding citizens and cannot interfere with investigation if given a temporal relief.
Despite a counter argument by the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kofi Blakodzie, to keep them in custody.
The incident took place at about 7:00 am on Sunday, July 3, 2022 when two factions met on a family land where a struggle ensued.
During the altercation, Brefo allegedly stabbed Yeboah with a knife and he (Yeboah) died on the spot.
