Ahmadiyya elders urged to uphold moral excellence in digital age
The 40th Annual Rally of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elders Association (Ansarullah) has brought together nearly 2,000 members in Wa to promote moral excellence and strengthen their spiritual, social and moral responsibilities.
The three-day national conference, held at the Nasrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College of Education in Wa, brought together participants from all 16 regions of Ghana under the theme: ‘Upholding Moral Excellence in the Digital Age: The Role of Ansarullah.’
The Upper West Region recorded the highest participation with 628 members, followed by the Central Region with 314, Ashanti with 228 and Greater Accra with 129.
The programme featured volleyball, football, athletics and other activities, while about 3,300 people joined Friday prayers to climax the annual event.
Addressing the gathering, the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Charles Lwanga Puozuing, said the conference provided an opportunity for reflection, fellowship and renewal of values that contributed to community and national development.
He said Ansarullah members, as mature members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, had a responsibility to provide guidance and serve as examples to younger generations through their conduct.
According to him, leadership should be demonstrated through integrity, discipline, humility, responsibility and service.
Mr Puozuing stated that the digital age had expanded access to information and communication but had also created opportunities for misinformation, hatred, indecency and intolerance.
“The challenge is how we use technology and the values that guide our use of it,” he mentioned.
The minister urged members to use social media and other digital platforms to educate rather than mislead, unite rather than divide, and promote human dignity.
In a message delivered by the Sadr (National President) of Ansarullah, Alhajj Ali Muhammad Ketu, the worldwide spiritual leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Fifth Khalifa, urged members to strengthen their relationship with Allah through regular observance of the five daily prayers and study of the Holy Qur’an.
Alhajj Ketu explained that the association had adopted a five-year strategic plan covering programmes and projects with annual milestones, and urged members to take ownership of its implementation.
He said the plan included ensuring that every member could read the Holy Qur’an with understanding by the end of the five-year period.
The association is also focusing on the physical wellbeing of members, with blood pressure and blood sugar checks being conducted at mosques across the country.
Other initiatives include animal rearing, a headquarters project and the acquisition of a bus.
The conference also received a message from the Catholic Diocese of Wa, delivered on behalf of Most Rev. Bishop Francis Bomansaan, calling for cooperation among religious communities to promote ethical values, responsible technology use, peaceful coexistence and human development.
The conference ended with religious, social and physical activities designed to strengthen fellowship and reinforce members’ commitment to moral excellence, community service and peaceful coexistence.
