Emile Doe Dogbe Gakpetor Memorial Foundation awards scholarships to 6 needy students
The Emile Doe Dogbe Gakpetor Memorial Foundation has awarded scholarships to six academically outstanding but financially challenged students to support their education at the Senior High School (SHS) level.
The beneficiaries were selected under the Miafe Fiawo Scholarship Programme, an initiative aimed at promoting education and supporting brilliant students from less-privileged backgrounds.
The scholarship programme, launched early this year, attracted applications from eligible students who subsequently went through a rigorous screening and selection process.
The Miafe Fiawo 2026/2027 scholarship recipients are Alisa Agbeveade, David Zungbey Jnr, Elorm Emmanuel, Esilorm Brown, Vidzah Xorse and Rafaela Djopo.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony in Accra on Saturday, the Bishop of the AME Zion Church, Western West Africa, Rev. Dr Hilliard Dela Dogbe, who also chairs the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, said the six beneficiaries were selected based on their academic excellence, personal circumstances and potential to excel.
He stated that although the initial target was to select five students, the quality of the applications and the circumstances of the candidates prompted the selection of six beneficiaries.
“Your presence here is a product of your hard work. You are here because of your academic excellence, but we also recognise the challenges some of you are going through as you prepare for school,” he said.
Rev. Dr Dogbe urged the beneficiaries to regard the scholarship as a partnership between themselves, their families and the Foundation, stressing that the students also had a responsibility to work hard and justify the investment made in them.
He noted that the Foundation would continue to monitor the academic progress of the beneficiaries and maintain regular communication with them throughout their education.
The scholarship package includes a certificate of award and financial support of GH¢5,000 for each beneficiary, in addition to other educational assistance.
Rev. Dr Dogbe advised the students to remain focused on their education and avoid distractions associated with life at the SHS level.
He cautioned them against alcohol and drug abuse, and urged them to be mindful of the influence of friends.
He also encouraged them to remain faithful to their studies, God and themselves, and to avoid activities that their parents, teachers and other responsible adults would not approve of.
Speaking jointly on behalf of the recipients, David Zungbey Jnr and Rafaela Djopo thanked the Board of Trustees for the scholarships and promised to strive for good academic results.
A representative of the parents, Rev. David Zungbey, also expressed appreciation to the Foundation, saying the scholarships would significantly ease the financial burden on families and help the beneficiaries pursue their education.
He pledged the commitment of parents to work with the Foundation in order to ensure that the students made the best use of the opportunity.
A member of the Board of Trustees, Mrs Ophelia Zungbey, in a short remark, urged the beneficiaries to remain focused and make the Foundation and their parents proud.
She assured the students that the Foundation would continue to support and monitor their progress as they advanced from SHS to university.
The Rev. Emile Doe Dogbe-Gakpetor Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organisation focused on educational scholarships, including the Miafe Fiawo Scholarship for students transitioning from JHS to SHS, youth empowerment, livelihood support and the promotion of religious tolerance.
