‘Balance work, family life to accommodate domestic responsibilities

Women have been advised to strike a balance between their family life and work in order to avoid neglecting their domestic responsibilities.

According to the Regional Chief Manager of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) of Accra West, Mr Emmanuel Johnson, he stated that achieving this balance required women to make a conscious effort to reduce their time on social media while at home, and focus on nurturing their relationships with their children and husbands.

Mr Johnson gave the remarks at an event in Accra on Wednesday organised by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) of Accra West as part of activities to commemorate the International Women’s Day Celebration tomorrow, March 8.

It was on the theme: ‘Accelerating Action Through Empowerment.’

“As women, you wear many hats. You are mothers, daughters, wives, sisters, leaders, and professionals. Balancing family and career are no easy tasks, however, it is possible with determination, planning and support,” he emphasised.

He said by prioritising family time, women could foster a more supportive and loving environment, which was essential for the well-being and development of their loved ones.

Mr Johnson stressed the importance of women’s empowerment and encouraged them to focus on building their capacity and becoming economically empowered.

He noted that while gender parity was crucial, women should prioritise personal development over mere numbers to make an impact on society.

“Although gender parity is important as far as statistics are concerned, I would want to urge you all to seek personal development and progress in your various fields rather than pushing for mere numbers,” he added.

The Regional Chief Manager further encouraged women to focus on personal development and progress in their respective fields to ensure sustainable development for all citizens.

“Remember, however that it is not about perfection, but about progress. None of you is permitted to be stagnant. Make progress at all costs,” he noted.

For her part, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Bottling, Mrs Serena Kwakye –Mintah, stressed the importance of intentionality, embracing flexibility, and building a strong support system to balance career and family.

“Success in one area means failure in the other. But success is not about choosing between career and family. It is about finding harmony between the two,” she indicated.

Also, she encouraged women to take charge of their careers and not be afraid to avail themselves to opportunities since it could lead to their career advancement.

The Regional Commutations Manager of GWCL of Accra West, Mrs Solace Akomeah, stressed the importance of women having a strong support system and prioritising their responsibilities to achieve a fine balance between their careers and family life.

“Some women always use their work as an excuse to play their roles as wives. Home a little and then the career also a little,” she mentioned.

She added that GWCL of Accra West was committed to empowering its women employees, and the celebration was a testament to that commitment.
