Black Maidens advance to WAFU B U-17 tourney semis

 Getrude Amoafo’s brilliant second-half performance propelled the Black Maidens into the semi-finals of the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup, as they edged Benin 3-2 at the GFA Technical Centre.

The young Beninoise team started strong, taking the lead through Yenido Gandonou in the 12th minute. However, Ghana’s Getrude Amoafo equalised in the 37th minute, and Priscilla Mensah added a second goal just before halftime.

In the second half, Benin pushed hard for an equaliser, but Ghana’s defence held firm until Yenido Gandonou scored again in the 80th minute. Getrude Amoafo sealed the win for Ghana with a stunning goal in the 84th minute.

With this victory, the Black Maidens top Group A with six points and advance to the semi-fi­

 second-placed team in Group B.

It was the second clash be­tween the two sides following the withdrawal of Burkina Faso in Group A.

In the first game on Thurs­day, the Ghana Black Maidens emerged victorious with a 4-1 victory over the Beninois in the WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup opener.

Priscilla Mensah opened the scoring for the Ghanaians before

 Christiana Ashiaku scored a sen­sational hat-trick to seal a decisive win at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence (GSCE) in Prampram.

Mensah shot the Black Maid­ens ahead as early as the sixth minute before Christiana Ashiaku added the second in the 17th minute, scored the third from the spot in the 44 minute before completing her sensational hat-trick with a sublime finish on the stroke of full time.

Benin scored the consolation through Yenido Gandonou in the second half.

Christiana Ashiaku was ad­judged the Most Valuable Player after Ghana’s 4-1 win over Benin following her hat-trick heroics against the Beninois.
