Church Organist, one other jailed for robbery
Two Nigerians have been sentenced to a total of 25 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Accra Circuit Court “One” for robbing a woman of her Samsung S7 mobile phone valued at GH¢1,600.00.
Promise Ime, 28, an organist at the Precious Fire Church and architect of the crime was jailed 15 years for threatening to stab Ms Beatrice Cudjoe with a knife and succeeding in snatching her handbag containing the mobile phone, cash of GH¢480.00, voter’s ID Card, Ghana Airport Company ID Card, Unibank ATM Card, NIA ID Card and SSNIT Card, at Adenta in Accra on March 12, 2019, at about 4:30am.
Jordan Onah Ndubisi, 27, a phone repairer, was also jailed 10 years for dishonestly receiving the Samsung S7 which he knew was obtained through a criminal act namely, robbery.
The Court presided by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, however, remanded another Nigerian, Blessing Thompson, 27, a caretaker, in Police custody until April 9, 2019, for pleading not guilty to the charge of robbery.
Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Gullivers Tenkorang, said that the complainant, Ms. Beatrice Cudjoe, an employee of Ghana Airport company was on her way to work and upon reaching an area near the Kaf International School at Adenta, Promise Ime and Blessing Thompson suddenly rushed on her.
He said that Promise pulled a knife and told her to surrender her handbag else she would be stabbed.
The prosecutor said that the convict, (Promise Ime) pushed the complainant down and took her bag with the items away.
And about 9:30am same day, Ms. Cudjoe, who was at the Adenta Police Station Charge Office to lodge complaint fortunately saw the convicts, Promise and Jordan about 300 metres away and identified Promise to the police as the person who robbed her.
Chief Inspector Tenkorang said that the police without wasting time arrested the criminals and a search on them led to the recovery of GH¢250.00 being part of the money, two handkerchiefs and the Samsung S7 mobile phone from Jordan Onah Ndubisi.
He said that upon further interrogation, Promise took the police to the location of Blessing Thompson to effect his arrest and GH¢120.00 was also retrieved from him. They was subsequently charged with conspiracy, robbery and dishonestly receiving the Samsung S7 phone after investigations and put before court for prosecution.
The rest of the items were recovered later.
