City plan Sane talks, De Ligt’s Utd move off

Manchester City is set for talks with Leroy Sane in the coming days over a contract extension amid interest from Bayern Munich.

Sane has two years remaining on his contract, but Pep Guardiola wants the 23-year-old winger to stay at the club.

Bundesliga champions Bayern are pushing to sign the Germany international, with president Uli Hoeness claiming interest in the forward, but sources have confirmed that City have received no formal offer for Sane.

Sane was the 2018 Young Player of the Year but has fallen down the pecking order in Guardiola’s first team. Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva are his preferred options in wide positions, and Riyad Mahrez started the final title-winning game of the season at Brighton and the FA Cup victory over Watford.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have ruled out a move for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to Sky sources.

Reports in the national press over the weekend had suggested United could move for the £65m-rated Netherlands international this summer.

But Sky Sports News understands United have withdrawn the interest they held in De Ligt, with many among the Old Trafford hierarchy believing the 19-year-old is set to join Barcelona.

De Ligt has been a regular for Ajax over the past three seasons and captained the club to a league and cup double this campaign.

He was also instrumental in the Dutch side’s run to the Champions League semi-finals – suffering defeat to Tottenham in the last four of the competition. –Skysports
