David Apasara declares presidential ambition
David Apasara, former People’s National Convention (PNC) Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, has declared his intention to contest for the presidential seat in the upcoming December 2020 polls.
He said he would contest on the ticket of the PNC to change the dwindling fortunes of the party.
While acknowledging that the party has performed abysmally in recent national elections, Mr Apasara noted that he knows how to ensure the party became vibrant and gain influence within the country’s political space.
After an extensive consultation with party stalwarts and his family, he indicated that ” I am ready to lead the PNC to victory, I know how to do it, I have done it before and I know what to do to bring our party back,” he stressed.
He is not the first member of his party aspiring for the high office of the president but Sampson Asaaki Awingobit, the Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association, in February this year also declared his intention to contest as presidential candidate in Election 2020 on the ticket of the PNC.
He said his decision was borne out of the desire to serve the country and contribute to its socio-economic development saying ” I have been serving all my life, I’ve realised I have an interest, I am eyeing the PNC presidential candidate slot, I want to use the opportunity to announce to all PNC fraternity in the country including the citizenry who know there is need for third force party.”
Mr Awingobit had also pledged to ensure PNC became again, a vibrant political party and indicated “my face alone will bring in more youth, inspire them to join the party, convince, understand what to bring to the table, well equipped, bring image, new issues and new face onto political limelight in the country.”
The National Secretariat of PNC is yet to announce the date for the party’s presidential primary to elect a flag-bearer ahead of Election 2020 and Bernard Mornah, National Chairman of the party, had stated that the party within the “shortest possible time” would elect its flag-bearer for the 2020 elections.
“The PNC will embark on an internal retooling processes that will lead it to elect a candidate who will offer citizens an issues-based campaign,” he assured -citinewsroom.com
