The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has cautioned the public against attacks on military personnel on “authorised duty” as part of military support to the Ghana Police Service to restore law and order across the country.
The GAF had observed attempts by “mobs to disarm military personnel” on authorised duty as part of military support to the GPS to restore law and order in the country, amid post electoral violence that had taken place in some constituencies.
The GAF in a press statement signed by the Director General of Public Relations of the GAF, Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, and copied The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, further cautioned that military personnel on authorised duty had the right to defend themselves, innocent civilians, and properties, including the use of lethal force, if necessary, to preserve life.
“The military hierarchy encouraged the citizenry to exercise their civic right responsibly while they cooperated with security personnel and refrained from any act that could disrupt the peace of the country.
“The Ghana Armed Forces reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the stability and sovereignty of the nation,” the statement added
