Domelevo cautions against fighting corruption quietly
The former Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo has cautioned that corruption is a “dangerous enemy” that cannot be dealt with by an individual but collectively.
“Anybody who tries to fight corruption quietly will not succeed because if you fight corruption alone, you won’t last and corruption is one dangerous enemy you can’t fight alone, and you can’t fight quietly and if you fight corruption quietly, you will be finished in a minute,” he stressed.
Speaking at his thanksgiving service at the Christ The King Catholic Church, Mr Domelevo expressed appreciation to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) focused on fighting corruption for their support, assistance and help to him while he was in office at the Audit Service.
He indicated that their support and assistance ensured the fight against corruption was waged strongly saying “I must thank anti-corruption CSOs and institutions fighting corruption, I am very grateful you have been with me together with the media and to the media, I am very grateful to you since you have been of big support and assistance to me in all that has happened over the years”.
Mr Domelevo left his position as Auditor-General when President Nana Akufo-Addo on March 3, directed that he retires from the office and the Audit Service Board before his return from compulsory 167-day accumulated leave claimed to have found some irregularities and anomalies in his Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) data.
The Board alleged records at SSNIT provided by the Auditor-General indicated that his date of birth was 1960 when he joined the scheme on October 1, 1978, they also questioned his hometown and stated that he had written he hailed from Agbetofe in Togo which made him a non-Ghanaian.
It stated that while the date of birth changed to June 1, 1961, his hometown was now Ada in the Greater Accra Region but Mr Domelevo explained that his grandfather was a native of Ada but migrated to Togo and stayed at Agbetofe and on the issue of his date of birth, he noticed 1960 was a mistake when he checked information on baptismal register of the Catholic Church in Adeemmra.
In a press statement issued and signed by Nana Bediatuo Asante, the Secretary to the President, however, a report from Audit Service Board intimated Mr Domelevo exceeded the eligible age to remain in workforce and should be retired.
