Ernest Adomako wins Okaikwei South seat

The National Demo­cratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Okaikwei South Constit­uency, Ernest Adomako (Keon) has been elected as its Member of Parliament for the next four years.

Mr Adomako secured 32, 691 votes to beat the incum­bent, the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Darkoa Newman who garnered 24, 263 votes.

This is the first time in 28 years that the NDC has won the seat, thereby breaking the monopoly of the NPP.

In the presidential election, the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama won in the constitu­ency with 31, 849 votes, while Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP had 23, 993 votes, Nana Kwame Bediako of the New Force had 665 votes, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen had 198 votes and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party had 61 votes.

Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) had 42 votes, Hassan Abdulai Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC) se­cured 27 votes, Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr of the Great Con­solidated Party (GCPP) had 15 votes, and Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) had 14 votes.

Total votes cast at the end of day summed up to 57,367 votes with total valid votes of 56, 885 and 486 rejected votes for the presidential elections.

In the parliamentary elections, total valid cast amounted to 57, 255, while valid votes were 56, 954 with 301 rejects ballots.

Speaking to the party faithful and the media, the Member of Parliament-elect for Okaikwei South Constituency, Ernest Adomako thanked the con­stituents for voting for him and promised to ensure their needs were cared for.

He congratulated the president-elect John Dramani Mahama and promised to work hand-in-hand with him to make Ghana a better place.
