Ex-convict gets 7 years for stealing 2 motorcycles
A 40-year-old farmer, Bebli Komlatse, has been sentenced to seven years in jail for unlawful entry and stealing two motorcycles.
Bebli, an ex-convict, who appeared before the Hohoe Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The convict was earlier sentenced by the same court to five years imprisonment for the same offence
Chief Inspector Charles Aziati said the complainants were brothers staying at By-Plan, a suburb of Hohoe, in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region.
The prosecution said the complainants parked their Royal and Haojue motorcycles in their kitchen and went to bed.
Chief Insp Aziati said the first complainant woke up the following dawn and realised that the kitchen door was forced open and the two motorcycles stolen.
The prosecution said the complainant informed the brother about the theft and they reported the case to the police.
Chief Insp Aziati said the complainants went to Hohoe and Kpando in search of the stolen motorcycles.
He said the complainants saw one of the motorcycles the convict at a mechanic shop at Gbefi.
Chief Insp Aziati said when the convict saw the complainants approaching, he took to his heels, but he was arrested and handed over together with the motorcycle to the police at Hohoe.
The prosecution said the second motorcycle had not been retrieved and said the two motorcycles were Royal with registration number M-22-VR 273 valued at GH¢5,200 and Haojue with registration number M-21-VR 3004 valued at GH¢5,700. —GNA
