Global Evangelical Church, Compassion International to plant 19,000 tree seedlings
The Global Evangelical Church, Kuntunse in collaboration with Compassion International, an NGO, has undertaken a tree seedlings planting exercise at Akotoshie No.2 in Ga West Municipality.
Reverend Emmanuel Homeli in charge of the Global Evangelical Church at Kuntunse said the exercise was their contribution to the President’s call for Ghanaians to plant tree seedlings to mark the Green Ghana Day.
He said the church in partnership with Compassion International, Ghana is planting more than 19,000 tree seedlings across the regions of Ghana.
Mr Kobina Yeboah Kyere, National Director of Compassion International, Ghana, said his organisation intended to plant tree seedlings on annual basis and monitor the seedling until they grow, to preserve the environment.
He said some of the seedling was purposefully planted around the Akotoshie Junior and Primary Schools building which suffered a rip off in a recent storm.
Mr Emmanuel Kyere, Amasaman Forestry Services Division tasked the school children and the community at large to water and nurture trees until they grow.
He said, trees in addition to serving as wind breaks, provide shade, timber and fuel, and also protected the environment.
