Hearts, Olympics clash for 2025 Democracy Cup

Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics would be involved in a thrilling encounter to determine who wins the Democracy Cup at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, today.
The game is to commemorate and celebrate Ghana’s parliamentary democracy.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko defeated Hearts of Oak 2-1 in Accra to win the maiden edition played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Lucky enough to be selected again for the second edition, Hearts of Oak would be out to stake a claim for the trophy.
But they must clear an enormous hurdle on their way, that is, Accra Great Olympics before laying hands on the trophy.
The Phobians started the previous season not so well but picked up the pieces midway through the campaign to end in the top four.
Currently under Coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, the Phobians seem to have discovered their mojo and are playing some of their best seasons, making them overwhelming favourites for the game to be watched by high-profile personalities, including the President, John Mahama, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, Ag. Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, and others.
Under normal circumstances, a clash between Hearts and Olympics should not have attracted the attention it has enjoyed so far due to the latter’s poor showing of Olympics in last season’s Division One League (DOL).
The Wonder Club has, however, targeted an immediate comeback, instantly revamping its management and technical staff as well as the playing body.
Having played a series of trial matches, Olympics are building the momentum to face their fierce city rivals.
Ahead of the game, the Ghana Football Association has announced an officiating team from the ‘Catch Them Young’ policy that has seen hundreds of youth trained as referees and assistant referees.
“In line with the Football Association’s “Catch Them Young” refereeing policy, designed to identify and nurture young officiating talent, four emerging referees have been appointed to handle the contest,” a statement from the FA said.
Young Theophilus Antwi Sekyi will take charge as the centre referee for the big match.
He will be assisted on the lines by Kojo Larbi Wagya (Assistant I) and Abraham Partey (Assistant II), with Alex Amoabeng serving as the fourth official.
Kick-off is at 6pm.
As a curtain raiser, retired Black Stars players will play Members of Parliament in a match expected to be full of thrills. Kick-off is 3pm.
