Hearts silence Medeama in Tarkwa …Accra Lions drop points at home
Hearts of Oak produced a sensational attacking display to beat dominant Medeama SC 2-0 at the TnA Stadium in an electrifying match, while FC Samartex 1996 scored in added time to pick a point at Accra Lions in an absorbing Premier League games on Friday night.
The Phobians scored twice from counter-attacks to record the comfortable win and condemned the Mauve and Yellow to their first ever defeat at the newly built TnA Stadium.
Kwabena Boateng raced past the backline of Medeama to finish off a beautiful run from Hamza Issah on 63 minutes.
Substitute Mawuli Wayo put the icing on the cake with a header two minutes to the end, outsmarting Nurudeen Abdulai and Kamaradini Mamudu to beat Appiah Kubi for the second time on the night in Tarkwa.
Medeama dominated possession but lacked the cutting edge with Diawise Taylor missing a flurry of chances but it just wasn’t to be as the home side lost for the first time at the TnA Stadium.
Hearts have jumped to 8th in the table with 12 points while Medeama remain in fourth place with 15 points from matches.
On the same night at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, defending champions, Samartex FC, delivered a last gasp equaliser to draw 1-1 with Accra Lions in a highly entertaining game.
Abdul Shakun-Abubakar put Lions in front on the 43 minutes and appeared to be cruising to victory until Benedict Afful pulled parity in added time to share the spoils.
The defending champions are now sixth in the table with 14 points while Lions are 16th on the log.
