Holy retains IBF African title with victory over Lokko

International Boxing Federation (IBF) inter-continental champion, Holy Dorgbetor, defeated Beninois boxer, Clement Aliou Lokko, via unanimous decision to retain his title at the Centre Point Mall in Accra last Sunday.

The championship, put up by Ace Power Promotion in partnership with the Centre Point Mall, dubbed the ‘Street 2 Champions’ fight tournament was aimed at promoting young boxers.

Holy, who doubles as Ghana’s national featherweight champion, put up a splendid performance in a 10-round fight as all three judges scored in his favour.

Following his victory over Lokko, Holy, also known as ‘jaw breaker’ has extended his winning streak to 13 bouts without defeat, and a draw against the same opponent in February 2024.

Ranked first in Benin, it was Lokko’s first defeat in 11 professional fights, having secured nine wins and a draw.

Speaking after the emphatic win, Holy vowed to win a world title for Ghana, and said he was ready to face any boxer in his weight category.

In other bouts, 2020 Olympic bronze winner, Samuel Takyi, secured a first round TKO over Emmanuel Quartey in a six-round lightweight contest, taking his professional wins to five.

All African Games 2023 gold medalist, Mohammed Ayeetey, defeated Isaac Nettey via a fourth round TKO in a super flyweight bout to record his 10th victory.

In another super flyweight bout, Isrealist Yonatam Landman defeated Asamoah Wilson, while Kelvin Abraham triumphed over David Okai in a middleweight contest.

Debutant, Benedict Baddoo, won his first professional bout in the lightweight category with a fourth round TKO over Richard Ashong, while Samuel Quaye defeated former national lightweight champion, Benjamin Lamptey, in a super lightweight contest.

In a middleweight contest, Joshua Quartey climaxed the night with a fourth round TKO over Burkinabe fighter, Kabore Boniface
