KGL Group Democracy Cup 2025 rescheduled to Sept. 5

 The highly antici­pated KGL Group Democracy Cup 2025 match be­tween Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics has been moved to September 5.

Originally scheduled for August 29, at the Accra Sports Stadium, the match will now be held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadi­um on Friday, September 5.

The Parliament of Ghana, under the able leadership of Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, announced the change, citing the need for better facilities, enhanced security, and an overall improved experience for both players and fans.

According to a statement from Parliament’s Director of Media Relations, Mr David Sebastian Damoah, the University of Ghana Sports Stadium offers superior amenities and ample space to host this high-profile city derby, pro­moting fair play, sportsmanship, and peaceful civic engagement.

Introduced by Parliament under the Speaker’s guidance, the Democracy Cup is an annual event using football to promote demo­cratic values, civic participation, and national unity.

This single match between top Ghanaian clubs encourages healthy rivalry and reinforces sport’s role in fostering peace and develop­ment.

In a separate development, Mr Bagbin, has officially received the KGL Group Democracy Cup 2025 trophy ahead of the game.

Great Olympics club legend, George Alhassan, and Hearts of Oak legend, Yaw Amankwah Mireku, together with former Black Stars skipper, John Mensah, who are ambassadors KGL Group Democracy Cup 2025, presented the trophy to the Speaker.

Receiving the trophy, Mr Bagbin expressed confidence that this year’s edition will be exceptional and further help strengthen Gha­na’s democratic credentials.

He revealed that they have made a proposal to the President John Mahama to be the special guest on the day.

There will be a curtain-raiser match between a parliamentary side, led by former Black Stars midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, and a Judiciary team, led by former Black Stars captain, John Mensah. Both teams will include former Ghanaian soccer stars.
