KoKMA disburses GH¢66,000 items to PWDs
The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) has presented assorted items worth GH¢66,000 to nine Persons With Disability (PWDs), from the three per cent share of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF).
The items included chest freezers, sewing machines, high voltage stabilisers, start-up for mobile money transfers, among others.
At a short ceremony to present the items in Accra on Thursday, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of KoKMA, Mr Samuel Nii Adjei Tawiah, said the move which was the 4th disbursement was in fulfilment of the government’s responsibility to support PWDs in the country as stipulated in the constitution.
Mr Tawiah, expressed gratitude that, despite the global challenges, the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration was keen in supporting PWDs to be self-reliant.
The MCE thus entreated the beneficiaries to make good use of the items to improve their living conditions adding that a team would be assigned to monitor the use of the items to ensure they were used for its intended purpose.
The Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, KoKMA, Madam Jean Ameley Tagoe, said the items were purchased and distributed to the beneficiaries based on their individual needs after they were carefully selected with the help of assembly members in various electoral areas.
She said since the inception of the programme, there had been some improvement as some beneficiaries who hitherto solicited for alms on the streets, now own their own businesses.
