Mahama rounds up campaign tour of Upper East Region …urges electorates to vote for change
The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has rounded up his four-day campaign tour of the Upper East Region with a call on the people to vote wisely and massively for the opposition party because “elections have consequences.”
The former President said the people must not lose sight of the hardship they’ve been subjected to under the New Patriotic Party government in the last eight years and make the decision to rescue the country from the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.
Addressing a rally at Bolgatanga Monday night, former President Mahama said a vote for the governing New Patriotic Party would be an endorsement of the suffering and the misgovernance of the Akufo-Addo led regime.
“Let us not make any mistake because elections comes with consequences and if you make a mistake, it will haunt you for the next four years so let us vote wisely,” he said to the charged crowd.
The current regime, Mr Mahama said in the run up to the 2016 and 2020 elections made lofty promises but had done little to improve on the lives of the people.
He said in as much as Ghana was not paradise under his regime, steady progress was being made on the quiet without any fuss because “our team had doers and not talkers.”
According to the former President, the destruction of the economy was not necessarily an NPP agenda but the President and his small clique who want to impose the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to cover for their sins against the state and a vote for the Vice President would be a vote to clear the mess created by the government.
That, he said, must not be allowed to happen as every penny plundered by any member of the government must be recovered and used for the benefit of the people.
The former President told the crowd that the top brass of the governing party were disappointed in the government and want the party out of power and that voting the NPP out had become a communal labour which all Ghanaians must join.
Ghana’s current state, he noted needed an experienced pair of hands to turn things around and among the candidates seeking the top job, he is by far the most experienced to steer the country back on the track of progress.
“We were told to try them and the results are what we are seeing today. They are here again saying we should try them but the youth and people of Ghana are tied of trials. They need experienced hands to move the car from the ditch and drive it safely to our destination,” he stressed.
On the development of Bolgatanga and the region at large, the former President said he would ensure the completion of the Bolga-Bawku road, construct an airport, a modern multi-purpose stadium, establish a rice milling facility in the Builsa area, and a tertiary institution in the Bonaboto area to open the region to investments.
He described the NDC as a development oriented party which has driven the development of the Upper East with its current infrastructure and a vote for the NDC would be an invitation to do more.
The former President’s four-day campaign tour of the region to him to Bawku, Pusiga, Garu, Tempane; Binduri, Zebilla, Nabdam, Bolgatanga East; Talensi, Bongo, Chiana-Paga, Navrongo; Yagaba-Kubori, Builsa North and Builsa South Constituencies.
