Man shot dead at Awutu Bawjiase

A Violent confrontation at Awutu Bawjiase in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region, has resulted in the death of a man.

The incident occurred when a group of armed men, believed

to be land guards, invaded the Bawjiase chief’s palace, ahead of the scheduled outdooring ceremony of the new chief, Nai Nana Kwaku Osardu (III).

According to police sources, some family members gathered at the chief’s palace, preparing for the ceremony when the armed group stormed the location, leading to the shooting to death, a man, believed to be in his 30s.

The Awutu Bawjiase community has been embroiled in a chieftaincy dispute for the past 25 years, which was recently resolved by the National House of Chiefs, earlier this year.

The community had hoped that the National House of Chiefs’ ruling would bring an end to the longstanding dispute, making the violent turn of events particularly shocking.

The Bawjiase District Police Command is currently working to maintain peace and order in the area.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been transported to the Police Hospital by the Bawjiase Police for further examination. – Myjoyonline.com
