Obuasi Municipal Assembly performs creditably …in key governance areas

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) in the Ashanti Region, has been ranked 11th in the 2020 National Rankings of Municipal and Metropolitan District Assemblies (MMDAs) Annual Government Service Performance Contract across the country after performing creditably in key governance areas.

The assembly was also ranked second in the Ashanti Region including general administration, human resource management, financial management, reporting and infrastructure as well as social services, economic development, environment, and water and sanitation.

It has expressed appreciation to management, Assembly Members and staff of the assembly for working assiduously to ensure the assembly attained the historic feat in administering local governance.

The Monitoring and Verification exercise was for the year 2020 based on the Local Government Service’s Performance Contract of the 16 Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) and the 260 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with Nkoranza North District in the Bono East Region topped ranking for the year under review.

Elijah Adansi-Bonah,the Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi, said he was excited the hard work, commitment, dedication and determination of stakeholders had paid off to chalk the remarkable feat and must not be complacent to be able to improve upon the position.

“We must be really excited our hard work, commitment, dedication and determination has paid off and the remarkable feat must not make us complacent but must encourage us to improve upon our position even though we all deserve a pat on the back,” he reiterated.

Mr Adansi-Bonah appealed to management, staff, resident, and assembly members not to rest on their oars, but rather double their efforts to enable the assembly to perform better in subsequent rankings to attract investment to create jobs and wealth to uplift the municipality to a metropolitan status.

Francis Darko, the Municipal Coordinating Director, also lauded the management, staff of the assembly and assembly members for eschewing laziness, absenteeism and indiscipline but resolved to dedicate, determine and commit themselves to duty and improve upon the status of the municipality.

Congratulating them and other stakeholders in the governance structure, he cautioned that “even though we have chalked achievements, remember that there is still more room for improvement so we must remain focused as management, staff and assembly members to improve upon the current position by not relenting rather put in more efforts to move further up in the next rankings”.–citinewsroom.com
