A police was injured when he attempted to prevent agitating youth of Akatsi South, in the Volta Region, from attacking two persons, suspected to have murdered a motor rider.
The police on Wednesday encountered the wrath of the unknown mob that attacked two men suspected to have murdered Louis Agbogli, 28-year-old motor rider.
This was when the police went to arrest the suspects and retrieve the body of Agbogli, at Nyatsive, a village near the Republic of Togo, where he was allegedly murdered.
Chief Superintendent Isaac Baah, the Akatsi South Municipal Police Commander confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
He said the police was injured on his forehead, when he attempted to prevent the mob justice against the suspects.
The Police Commander said the incident happened when the police returned from Nyatsive with Etse Datsomor, a 20-year-old suspect, in connection with the crime.
Chief Sup Baah said some rampaging youth and residents of Akatsi massed up at the Akatsi Police station, demanding the release of the suspects for ‘instant justice.’
He said it took the timely intervention of the Municipal Chief Executive for the area and the rapid deployment of personnel from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Police Service, to calm tempers down.
Chief Sup Baah said the suspects have since been transferred to an unknown location waiting to reappear in court on Friday, June 2.
He said security has been beefed up at the Police Station while further investigation into the incident continued.
Chief Sup Baah said one suspect had been arrested in connection with the injury caused on the police, who is receiving medical attention. — GNA
