‘Resolve differences, foster unity ahead of future elections’

The Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr George Krobéa Asante, has made a passionate appeal to the rank and file of the party to resolve their differences and foster unity ahead of future elections.

He said members of the party should channel their energy where it matters, especially against the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who are their true political rivals, as some members had become so consumed by unnecessary internal politics.

In his press statement issued yesterday, Mr Asante observed that some members no longer want to hear the party’s solid achievements under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s regime.

“Instead of defending our record, they echo NDC propaganda and distort facts just to score internal points, leaving the elephant wounded on the battlefield. My question is simple: why are we doing this to ourselves?” it said.

“Rather than promoting the unique strengths of their preferred 2028 presidential hopefuls, some have chosen the path of division, engaging in character assassination, name-calling, and fabricating lies against fellow patriots. This is self-destruction. How does tearing down your camp help you win the war against the NDC” the statement added.

Furthermore, it stated that every aspirant in the party’s presidential primaries race had valuable qualities, proven strengths, and a clear identity that could be sold to delegates and the Ghanaian people.

“Our focus should be on building our own, and not giving our opponents free ammunition. When we publicly disgrace one another, we hand the NDC a ready-made campaign message. As the NPP is bigger than any individual,” it noted.

The NPP has officially scheduled its presidential primaries to Saturday, January 31, 2026, following a decision taken at a crucial meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

This announcement by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, sets the stage for a decisive contest to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general election.

With growing anticipation within the party’s rank and file, the primary is expected to attract significant interest from longstanding members and new contenders seeking to lead the NPP into the next electoral cycle.

Party officials have indicated that nomination guidelines, timelines for campaign activities, and the code of conduct for aspirants will be released in the coming weeks.

The party has officially opened nominations for individuals interested in contesting in the presidential primaries for the 2028 elections, following Article 13 of their constitution.

Moreover, interested candidates must collect nomination forms from the Office of the General Secretary at the party headquarters at Asylum Down. The nomination period will run from Tuesday, July 29, 2025, to Thursday, August 28, 2025.

The party said candidates must submit a non-refundable fee of GH¢100,000 to obtain nomination forms, and a filing fee of GH¢500,000 via a banker’s draft made out to the NPP.
