Scout and Guide Fellowship Ghana toEmpower Leaders with 21st-Century Skills

The Scout and Guide Fellowship Ghana (SGF-Gh), is set to hold a three-day training workshop aimed at equipping Scout and Guide leaders with critical 21st-century skills to empower the youth and support national development.

The workshop, organised in collaboration with the Ghana Girl Guides Association (GGGA) and the Ghana Scouts Association (GSA), will take place from May 9 to 11, 2025, at the Girl Guide Training Centre in Accra.

Board Chairman of the Fellowship, Dr Albert Tetteh Botchwey, stated that the training is designed to align the efforts of Scout and Guide leaders with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

“This initiative is a timely response to the evolving needs of today’s youth and the responsibilities of Scout and Guide leaders in shaping tomorrow’s citizens. It will strengthen our capacity to deliver relevant, skill-based, and impactful programmes to young people,” he said.

He explained that the workshop, themed “Empowering Scout and Guide Leaders with 21st-Century Skills to Equip Youth for Achieving MDGs 2 & 3 and SDGs 1–5”, would focus on enhancing leadership, digital literacy, communication, and practical skills necessary for youth development.

He explained that a specific attention will be given to MDG 2 (Quality Education), MDG 3 (Gender Equality), and SDGs 1 to 5 — including No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, and Gender Equality.

“We believe that by empowering our leaders, we are creating a ripple effect that reaches the youth they mentor. This is not just a workshop — it’s a strategic investment in sustainable youth development and nation-building,” he emphasised.

Executive Secretary of SGF-Gh and a member of the organising committee, Stephanie Birikorang, noted that the training aligns with SGF-Gh’s commitment to empowering adult volunteers to deliver meaningful change in their communities.

“Our aim is to build a pool of well-trained leaders who are confident in their ability to mentor young people, especially in areas of education, health, gender equality and civic responsibility,” she stated.

She added that the collaborative nature of the programme reflects the shared vision of GGGA, GSA, and SGF-Gh to raise a generation of self-reliant, informed and proactive youth.

“This is more than capacity building — it is about creating a sustainable culture of service, responsibility, and innovation among our youth leaders,” Ms Birikorang said.

She encouraged participants to take full advantage of the opportunities the workshop presents and to carry forward the knowledge gained into their respective communities for broader social impact.

Participants will benefit from sessions on future-readiness in the digital and AI age, emergency care, civic responsibility, public relations, and various self-reliance and skill development modules.

The training will also foster partnerships among youth development stakeholders and provide continuous mentorship and coaching for participating leaders.
