Scout and Guide Fellowship of Ghana Mourns Victims of Military Helicopter Crash

The Scout and Guide Fellowship of Ghana (SGF-Gh) has expressed profound sorrow and solidarity with the nation following the tragic Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two sitting Ministers of State.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Fellowship’s National President, Andrew Botchwey, SGF-Gh extended its “deepest sorrow and heartfelt condolences” to the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and all institutions affected by what it described as a national tragedy.

The crash occurred on Wednesday morning when a military Z-9 helicopter en route from Accra to Obuasi went down in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region. According to official reports, there were no survivors.

Among those who lost their lives were Hon. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation. Also aboard the ill-fated flight were Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a government technical advisor; and three members of the aircrew Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

“This heartbreaking event is a solemn reminder of the selfless commitment of those who serve our country,” the Fellowship noted. “The loss of such dedicated leaders and military personnel is not only a blow to governance and national security but also a deep wound to the spirit of public service and civic duty.”

In the wake of the tragedy, the SGF-Gh reaffirmed its solidarity with the Ghanaian people, offering prayers for strength, healing, and unity as the country grapples with the loss. The association also voiced its support for ongoing investigations aimed at uncovering the cause of the crash.

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded, “and may their legacies continue to inspire leadership rooted in service, sacrifice, and nation-building.”
