Sudan skipper Agab predicts victory over Black Stars in 2nd leg
The skipper of the Sudan national football team, Ramadan Agab, says the team is optimistic about beating the Black Stars in the reverse fixture of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers tomorrow at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi, Libya.
The 10,550 all-seater stadium will be used by Falcons of Jediane as their home grounds due to the unrest in Sudan.
Speaking exclusively to the Times Sports after surviving a second-half scare from the Black Stars to draw goalless at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, Agab stated they were going to beat Ghana 2-0 in the return leg.
“I’m sorry, we will beat Ghana 2-0 in Libya. Ghana had a good game today; the draw is a very good result for us.”
According to him, the first leg outcome was good for their chances of qualifying to the AFCON and it would spur them on to do their best in the remaining games to qualify.
“You have good players but I’m sorry we’ll beat you to brighten our chances of qualification. Coach Kwesi Appiah knows the Ghana team well and that would help us to beat them, “the Al-Merrikh SC player further stated.
Agab heaped praises on his colleagues for the brave display, especially their goalkeeper, Mustafa Mohamed, whose second-half heroics denied Ghana, including a save of Mohammed Kudus’s tap in from close range off the line, with two minutes to the end of the game.
The Al-Merrikh SC shot-stopper, who is on loan at Azam FC, stood between the Black Stars and a goal as he denied forwards Antoine Semenyo and Inaki Williams similar opportunities earlier.
“My goalkeeper, Mohamed, is another reason we were able to get the draw, he was superb.”
Ghana is placed third in Group F with two points below Sudan who is second with four points while Angola leads the pack with nine points after beating Niger 2-0 in Luanda on Friday.
Niger is last on the log with just a point earned in their draw with Ghana
