The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Ghana, in partnership with the Ghana Netball Association (GNA) and the National Sports Authority (NSA), will host a two-day national netball championship at the Accra Sports Stadium from today through tomorrow.

Organised as part of the IOM’s “Addressing Trafficking in Sports Project”, the championship under the theme “together, we can end human trafficking in sports in Ghana,” will feature 12 competitive netball teams from across the country and serve as a platform to promote safe and inclusive sporting environments for young athletes while raising awareness of the risks of trafficking in sports.

The event will also highlight the role of sport in youth development, empowerment and social cohesion, while raising awareness of the need to safeguard young athletes against exploitation.

The championship will be played under World Netball’s five-a-side format, with each match lasting 35 minutes, comprising two 15-minute halves and a five-minute half-time break.

The opening fixtures will see Shalom take on Bosomtwe Ladies, Blazing Hands face Rising Stars, Generations play Mighty Hands, and Hunters battle Adougyama SHNC. Bosomtwe Ladies will also face Spice Girls, Rising Stars will take on Matrix, while Mighty Hands will cross swords with Crimson Hawk.

The remaining fixtures will see Adougyama SHNC face Future Stars, Spice Girls take on Shalom, Matrix play Blazing Hands, Crimson Hawk battle Generations, and Future Stars face Hunters.

At stake will be a giant trophy, as well as medals for the first, second and third-placed teams.

In attendance will be representatives from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Acting Director-General of the NSA, Prof. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, and the IOM Chief of Mission for Ghana, Togo and Benin, Madam Fatou Diallo Ndiaye, among others.
