The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects and recovered two foreign made pistols, ammunition, suspected narcotics and more than GH¢20,000 in cash during an intelligence led operation at the Tamale Aboabo scraps area.
The Police said the operation also resulted in the recovery of three motorbikes, 123 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 12 sachets of 1mg Rohypnol, seven sachets of 250mg Tramadol and 111 wraps of suspected ashes.
A statement signed by the Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, disclosed this following an operation conducted by the Command’s Special Operations Team, popularly known as RED MARIA.
According to the statement, the operation was conducted on Monday, September 21, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m. within the Tamale Metropolis to clamp down on drug peddling, drug use and other related criminal activities.
It added that the team, acting on credible information, proceeded to the Tamale Aboabo scraps area near the forest, where five suspects were arrested.
They were identified as Ibrahim Issahaku, 39; Mohammed John, 28; Mohammed Nawas, 25; Mohammed Osman Awal, 41; and Kwame Boateng, 28.
The statement said a search conducted at Issahaku’s residence resulted in the recovery of two foreign made pistols with two rounds of 9mm ammunition, one parcel of suspected Indian hemp and GH¢1,880 in cash.
It added that GH¢18,825 was found concealed inside Boateng’s motorcycle at the ghetto and was suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotic drugs.
Other exhibits recovered from the scene included 123 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 12 sachets of 1mg Rohypnol, seven sachets of 250mg Tramadol, 111 wraps of suspected ashes and three motorbikes.
The statement said the suspects and the exhibits had been handed over to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit (RDLEU) for further investigation and necessary action.
