AMIKI CLUB begins GH¢4.5m library complex for Keta
A block laying ceremony has been performed for the construction of a three-storey library complex for the Keta municipality in the Volta region.
The GH¢4.5million project is being undertaken by the “AMIKI CLUB’’ a social club of a group of young men from the area.
The project, to be completed within three years, would have alibrary and an Information Communication and Technology (ICT) facility on the first and second floors while the third would be a guest house.
The President of the club,Dephor Galley told the Ghanaians Times that they were simply giving back to the Keta municipality and society.
According to him the area had educated, shaped and transformed their lives into responsible individuals, it was now their turn to provide the needed assistance to those coming after them, and generations yet unborn.
“We have benefitted from the limited basic amenities during our time and were able to make good use of those opportunities, it is now our turn to identify areas that could also support the education of the current generation in order to leave a legacy that would serve those who would come after them,” he added.
As to the source of the funding, the president indicated that the group had started individual contributions to kick start the project, explaining that they had also approached corporate bodies, benevolent institutions spirited individuals and prominent citizens,as well as engaging in other fund raising activities to fast-track the project, but it behooves them to take a bold step by starting the work to give those approached the confidence to donate freely towards a worthy course.
The club, Mr. Gallery explained was formed to support one another as well as give back to society.
He said they had been supporting the Keta Government Hospital for the past 15 years with medical equipment, and had also engaged in some educational activities in the area.
