CITEG clarifies “show down” comment of Kennedy Agyapong

The Citizen Eye Ghana (CITEG), a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) has indicated that presidential flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kennedy Agyapong meant no harm in his utterances during the just ended Super Delgates Conference of the party.
Mr Agyapong was captured in a video over the weekend expressing displeasure about alleged attacks on some of his agents at the various polling centers.
The video which had since gone viral has attracted various comments both online and in the media space.
At a press briefing in Accra on Monday, President of the CITEG, Mr Alex Kwaku Tetteh called on Ghanaians to disregard claims of Mr Agyapong wanting to instigate people against political opponents, adding that the politician was only focused on promoting a good cause for all well meaning Ghanaians.
He urged the public and media especially, to desist from fueling misleading narratives that have the potential of confusing and misleading the public.
“We urge responsible reporting and fact checking before the dissemination of any information of that sort to the public.”
“The recent video circulating on social media featuring Kenneday Agyapong using the phrase show down should not be misconstrued as a threat to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or vice president Ahaji mahamudu Bawamia. In context, Mr Agyapong was just expressing his resolve to participate actively in the upcoming November elections and compete with other candidates,” he added.
As a CSO, Mr Tetteh said his outfit was concerned about the feedback from Mr Agyapong’s campaign team headed by Mr Kwame Owusu Maritime, adding that CITEG remains commitmented to promoting transparency, responsible journalism and the dissemination of factual information.
CITEG’s priority is for stakeholders to uphold the principles of fairness and justice “as we move forward in this critical electoral process. We encourage open dialogue and collaboration to ensure that the best interests of Ghana and the citizens are upheld.”

On his part, another representative of CITEG, Mr Osei Kwame bemoaned that misinterpretation and verbal abuses could cause disturbances in the country and strongly advised against such behaviour.
He also underscored the need for the media to collaborate with institutions and other members of the public to promote peace as the nation prepares for the 2024 general elections.
