Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya road project ahead of schedule

THE Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced steady progress on the reconstruction of the Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya road and selected town roads, indicating that the project is currently ahead of schedule.

According to the ministry, the project, which commenced on December 5, 2025, is about 35 per cent complete and is on track for full completion by December 2027.

The project involves the construction of a 24.8-kilometre single carriageway asphalt concrete road, complete with shoulders and walkways. It also includes a four-kilometre dual carriageway at key junctions in Dodowa, Afienya, and Dawhenya.

Major structures along the route include a 40-metre span, four-lane concrete bridge over the River Detsedor at Afienya, as well as another concrete bridge at chainage 9+540, measuring eight metres by four metres, with 30-metre slabs.

Other components of the project comprise eight major box culverts, 28 pipe culverts, and 28.7 kilometres of concrete U-drains of varying sizes.

Additional works include a 550-metre storm drain measuring 1.6 metres by 1.3 metres, and a 40-metre outfall concrete-lined channel, eight metres by four metres.

When completed, the project is expected to serve as a critical link between Dodowa, Afienya, and Dawhenya, while improving the movement of goods between Accra and surrounding districts.

During an inspection tour of ongoing projects in the Greater Accra Region, the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and adherence to timelines.

He commended the contractor, Oswal Investment Group, for its commitment and urged the firm to sustain the momentum in order to ensure timely completion of the project for the benefit of residents and road users.
